On Sunday, join in the community fun at the first Sunday Parkways of the season! Enjoy six miles of city streets open to walk, bike, roll, run, jump and skip – without having to watch out for cars! The  Northeast Portland Sunday Parkways route will connect Woodlawn, Alberta, Fernhill and Wilshire Parks.  Tons of food, music and activities are located in the parks and along the route!

Sunday Parkways Needs Y-O-U!

We love Sunday Parkways are proud to continue as a sponsor of this growing community event. But it takes more than money to pull off this walk-bike-roll extravaganza, volunteers are needed to:

Portland Sunday Parkways needs you! Volunteering for Sunday Parkways is the best way that you can support this important community event.  Over 300 volunteers per event do everything, from giving out event information, providing mechanical support, distributing door hangers, setting up barricades, and much more. But we reserve our “Superheroes” title for those Sunday Parkways volunteers who help us monitor over 110 intersections along the route.

Intersection Superheroes (in addition to having a cool title) get a supply of chalk to decorate their own spot along the course, are lavished with snacks and water donated by some of our businesses sponsors, and make they sure that residents who live along the route can safely navigate to and from their homes.

Over the years we’ve seen our Superheroes do some pretty creative things, and they really enjoy their time volunteering with us. Volunteering on course is a unique way to get out and see the event, and be a part of something special. We hope you’ll join this year to see what all the fuss is rightly about. The world (and everyone who comes to Sunday Parkways) will thank you.

We welcome involvement from groups, clubs, churches, civic groups, student organizations and others who want to volunteer as a team. For more information, see the Sunday Parkways Volunteer page or contact Neal Armstrong, Volunteer Coordinator.

Milagros Supports Sunday Parkways!

Milagros is proud to continue its sponsorship of Sunday Parkways! It was a summer highlight for us last year, we can’t wait to do it again this year!

Sunday Parkways connects neighborhoods and people: walkers, runners, bicyclists, seniors, adults, and children all enjoying streets filled with surprises, performers, physical activities and food — and traffic-free. The 6-8 mile routes connect Portland’s beautiful parks and offer a chance for participants to listen to music, try other activities, such as hula hooping, or just relax and enjoy the smiling faces.

Here is the schedule for 2010:

  • May 16 Northeast Sunday Parkways — connecting Wilshire, Fernhill, Alberta, and Woodlawn Parks
  • June 27 North Sunday Parkways — connecting Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, and Kenton Parks
  • July 18 East Portland Sunday Parkways — connecting Lents and Ed Benedict Parks
  • August 15 Southeast Sunday Parkways — connecting Col. Summers, Laurelhurst, and Sunnyside Parks

See you there!
