If you know a teen in need, want to volunteer to help make the magic happen, or if you want to donate a gown for this giveaway, here is what’s up:
The 6th ANNUAL PROM GOWN GIVEAWAY dates are April 10-11, 2010 at our new location: The DoubleTree Hotel (Exhibit Hall)-Lloyd Center.
Saturday, April 10, 2010: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, April 11, 2010: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Abby’s Closet hosts an annual gown giveaway event. The gowns are FREE to high school woman. The only requirement is that the students show a high school ID card. As young women arrive, they are given a numbered ticket and told the approximate time they will be able to enter the salon area, where over 4000 dresses in sizes 0-26 are available to choose from. Volunteers will be on hand to help the young women.

Mark your calendars! The Concordia Neighborhood Association Annual Spring Egg Hunt at Fernhill Park (NE 37th and Ainsworth) on Saturday, April 3rd. The hunt begins at 10 am SHARP!
Seriously. Do not be late.
Last time we hit it, from the end of the countdown to start of the hunt to the point where the field was completely cleared of hundreds and hundreds of plastic eggs was less than 10 minutes!

Infant CPR for New Parents, Tuesday, March 9, 6pm: This month’s CPR class is full. This class will provided hands-on instruction on what to do if your infant or child is choking, rescue breathing, basic CPR and First Aid. You are welcome to bring your baby with you to this class. We offer this class on the second Tuesday of every month. Class fee is $25. More information and/or to register for the April, May, or June class
Story Time at Milagros, Wednesday, March 10, 10am: Join Jennifer of Green Bean Books for a special story time for preschoolers and the toddler set. It’s free!.
Mo Phillips Music for Families, Thursday, March 11, 10:30am: Join Mo Phillipsevery Thursday at 10:30 am for rockin’ music fun for little ones and adults. Suggested donation is $3 per walking human.
Shadow Puppet Theatre, Friday, March 12, 10:30am: $3 suggested donation per walking human. More info about David Freleng.
NE Moms Playgroup, Friday, March 12, 2:00pm: Free. The NE Moms playgroup meets at Milagros every other Friday at 2:00pm. The group is open to all, there is no charge and no RSVP is required. Bringing a snack to share is encouraged but not required and as with any playgroup please help keeping things cleaned-up and safe!

MOMS CLUB N/NE Portland is part of MOMS CLUB International – a non profit organization dedicated to supporting mothers. We are a group of local Moms who meet in person every Thursday morning. Most of our meetings are social activities, but we also do one service project a year. Children are always welcome at our meetings and activities. We try and do a MOMs night out once a month. We would love to welcome new member into the group.

Milagros Anniversary SALE Through Monday, March 1!
Kindermusik Sign & Sing Class, Monday, March 1, 11:30am: Through songs and play, both parents and babies learn signs for words like “mommy” and “eat,” and as well as practical signs like “more,” “milk,” and when he’s “all done.” This research-proven signing class for hearing children speeds language development, eases frustration, and enhances long-term learning abilities. Free!
Knitting Circle for the Hats and Scarves Project, Monday, March 1, 7pm: Come and start a knitting project to support the Hats and Scarves Project. All are welcome to come and knit at this social circle. Living Earth members, friends, and needle-workers in general knit and crochet (or sew) warm hats and scarves that to be given to children and families throughout our area to keep away the winter cold. A while back we posted about the moving book Three Cups of Tea about Greg Mortenson’s work building schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It remains a family favorite and a book we highly recommend for inspiration and courage (Mountains Beyond Mountains is another amazing biography in this vein as well).
Greg Mortenson is coming to Portland for a lecture and book signing. On October 21 he will be at Concordia University (located in our wonderful neighborhood) and tickets may now be purchased on-line.
We have our tickets and hope to see you there!
