Milagros is proud to continue its sponsorship of Sunday Parkways! It was a summer highlight for us last year, we can’t wait to do it again this year!
Sunday Parkways connects neighborhoods and people: walkers, runners, bicyclists, seniors, adults, and children all enjoying streets filled with surprises, performers, physical activities and food — and traffic-free. The 6-8 mile routes connect Portland’s beautiful parks and offer a chance for participants to listen to music, try other activities, such as hula hooping, or just relax and enjoy the smiling faces.
Here is the schedule for 2010:
- May 16 Northeast Sunday Parkways — connecting Wilshire, Fernhill, Alberta, and Woodlawn Parks
- June 27 North Sunday Parkways — connecting Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, and Kenton Parks
- July 18 East Portland Sunday Parkways — connecting Lents and Ed Benedict Parks
- August 15 Southeast Sunday Parkways — connecting Col. Summers, Laurelhurst, and Sunnyside Parks

One of my fave local blogs, bikeportland.org, has been posting some great information on riding with kids as well as family cycling suggestions for moving to a car-lite or car-free life.

Family Bicycle Transportation Day: Want to learn more about riding with kids + hauling cargo? This is the event for you!
Come demo a huge selection of family biking products in a fun atmosphere at a single convenient location. We’ll have many easy and flexible options on hand, including bakfiet and cargo bikes, trail-a-bikes, front-loading child seat options, bike trailers, tandems, electric-pedal assist electric-assisted bikes, helpful accessories and more.
There will also be information and resources covering safe routes to school and work, tips on riding with children, and bicycle maintenance.

Please join Vince as he gives tips on biking with your children, and presents his favorite bike rides in and around Portland. There will be plenty of advice, directions, pictures and videos to get you motivated to bike with your kids. Bring your sense of adventure and plenty of questions and/or concerns to this presentation.

Sound Roots’ Rookie Rock! Wednesday, August 12, 10 am at Milagros! Rookie Rock is a fun and upbeat musical environment for both parents and their babies or preschool age kids. A large variety of kid sized instruments will be available throughout the class so that children can explore what they find most intriguing. Space is limited, please come early to ensure a spot. Introduction: You are a true Portlander, right? Let me ask you, are you ready to start biking with your kids? It’s one of the first things I noticed with our first child – in Portland so many parents share their love for biking with their children. If you’re feeling a bit of trepidation, I’d like to share some of advice – advice gleaned NOT from reading a bunch of biking websites, product brochures, listening to expert testimony, sales representatives, or even using common sense! Rather, this advice comes from putting hundreds and hundreds of miles on my bike with my son. Hopefully, this advice will get you up and pedaling with your kids.
