We put a lot of emphasis on caring for our bodies while we are pregnant, but it is equally important to love and nourish your body following the birth of your child. Postpartum care is not only important for mom’s health, but also your baby’s.
Join Dr. Jolene Brighten as she provides tools and natural solutions to many postpartum ailments including pelvic pain, incontinence, breast tenderness and constipation. This talk is great for women who are currently pregnant, contemplating pregnancy or who have already gone through childbirth.

Dr. Jolene Brighten is a licensed Naturopathic physician and certified Holistic Pelvic Care provider. She practices integrative family medicine with an emphasis in women’s health and chronic disease management. She is also a mother to a wonderful boy, Bensen.

Basic 6 hour lactation management course for professionals Doulas, Midwives, Childbirth Educators, Social Service workers1. Identify the benefits of breastfeeding for mother, baby and society.
2. The anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding.
3. Identify the risks of formula.
4. The key components of the first feed.
5. How to help moms achieve a good latch.
6. What a good latch looks like.
7. The ability to identify common problems in the first week of breastfeeding.
8. Solutions to common problems in the first week.
9. The progression of milk from colostrum to mature milk.
10. Answers to common breast feeding questions such as: *How long till my baby sleeps through the night? *Do I have to nurse at night? * When can I introduce the bottle? *When can my partner help? *What is a growth spurt? *When should I start pumping?
11. Use active listening skills to identify breastfeeding problems
12. Identify contraindications to breastfeeding.
13. Identify possible obstacles to breastfeeding.
14. Proper pumping and storing of breast milk

We will focus on literacy in preschool age children with Down syndrome, but all are welcome. It’s never too early to start thinking about literacy, and we would love to learn from parents of older kids who have been there.

ICAN of Portland Monthly Meeting

International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) provides a forum where women can recover after a cesarean, and express their thoughts and concerns about birth. It is a support network for women healing from past birth experiences and for those preparing for future births.
ICAN of Portland considers our in-person support group to be a sacred space for mutual support. Because of the intimate and private nature of the discussions taking place, these spaces are open only to women who have experienced a cesarean themselves, at this time. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact ICAN of Portland for more info.
The Portland chapter meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at Milagros.
