Local musician Matt Clark has recently released an excellent CD of music for kids called “Funny Little Fella”.  These songs are quirky and fun for kids and parents.

Matt’s inspiration for the songs was the first year of his son’s life. As such, the songs focus on a baby’s first year from a baby’s point of view (without being annoying, a difficult feat that Matt pulls off).  Song titles such as “Why Do I Need Teeth?” and “I Think I am Gonna Put it in My Mouth” sum up what is in store.

According to Kids’ Music that Rocks: “Funny Little Fella, is a cross between Mr. David and They Might Be Giants, a musically and lyrically adventurous collection of tender, brief, but sometimes hilarious tunes.”

cover.jpgWe love Chrissy Butler’s illustrations and her delightful story-telling. Which is why we are proud to be the first retail store in the USA who is presenting this Australian author’s work.  We previously wrote about her book My Brother Jimi Jazz, a lovely book about home birth that was a favorite of Mila’s when we were preparing for Gael’s arrival, now we also have her new book The Wonderful Place.

The Wonderful Place is a delight filled look at the joys of full term breastfeeding. Featuring luscious images of breastfeeding moments and the musings of a toddler, this book sends a positive message to families about breastfeeding. It is alsoprinted onto 100% post consumer re-cycled paper is reinforcing the message of sustainability not only of breastfeeding but printing as well.

Chrissy is excited to share another book which advocates peaceful parenting: “My hope is that this book will help spread a joyous message about full term breastfeeding.” And we are excited to help!

603.jpgWe have a wonderful craft items for the kids at Milagros: Wiki Stix!

What are they? Wiki Stix are special wax covered yarn that let your kids be creative and crafty.

Safe, USA- made, non-toxic and endlessly reusable. Wiki Stix stick to each other and almost any smooth surface with just fingertip pressure. Your kids can create 3-D art, bracelets, pictures and much more. It really brings out their creativity and imagination. We use Wiki Stix as a travel toy for car trips and plane trips.

Wiki Stix are equally appealing to boys and girls, there is no right or wrong way to play with them.

Some FAQs about Wike Stix:

What are Wikki Stix made of? Do they contain latex or any type of peanut or nut products?

Wikki Stix are made of a strand of acrylic, hand-knitting yarn enhanced with a microcrystalline, food-grade, non-toxic wax. There is no latex, nor any peanut or nut oil. The wax is similar to that used in lipsticks and on food products.

How do I get Wikki Stix off the car windows?

First, DON’T reach for the Windex! Simply use a DRY paper towel and rub. It may take a moment of elbow grease, but it will come right off.

What if a Wikki goes through the wash?

They’re amazingly durable and come through in great shape! Probably won’t have quite the same play value as before, however, but your washer and clothes will be fine. We’ve even had them go through the dryer, with no ill effects.

Milagros now carries wool changing pads – made right here in Portland. These beautiful and practical changing pads are made from Oregon-made Pendleton wool. Wool makes a great choice for a diaper changing accessory. It is naturally absorbent (wool can absorb 1/3 of its weight in moisture before beginning to feel wet) and, when washed with a lanolin wash, wool is naturally antimicrobial.

We also now carry Charlie’s Soap, the zero-residue detergent officially recommended by Bummis. Are you tired of stripping your pocket diapers? Charlie’s performs perfectly on those picky pocket diapers with polyester fleece interiors. Charlie’s is also hypoallergenic, biodegradable and super-concentrated. At just one tablespoon of powder per load, one tiny bag of Charlie’s Laundry Powder can wash 80 loads of laundry or diapers – that’s only 16 cents per load! Charlie’s is also “HE” compliant for those of you with front loaders. Happy washing!

tripptrapp.jpgWe have been fans of the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair for ages and we are proud to offer it at Milagros.

The Tripp Trapp is a chair that grows with your child. It allows your wee one to always be sitting at the same height as adults at a table and it always provides the correct support for the child’s posture.  We purchase one for Mila when we realized that we had no chairs in the house that allowed her to get truly comfortable in.

We have a Tripp Trapp on display at Milagros.  Take a look and ask about what colors we have in stock.

nosefrida.jpgI am not sure what is a bigger pain that using a squeeze bulb to try and remove mucus from a wee one’s nose.  Like it or not we are rolling in to cold and flu season so such issues are on my mind. Luckily, we have discovered an alternative to the classic squeeze bulb: the Nosefrida.

The Nosefrida is more than just a cool name. Nosefrida is a nasal aspirator that removes mucus from your child’s nose but unlike a bulb it doesn’t require you placing anything IN your child’s nose. And unlike a bulb, you have full control over the amount of suction applied.  The result is more effective mucus removal and more tolerable experience for your baby or toddler.

Although the Nosefrida is new to the USA - Milagros was the first retailer in Portland - it has been used in Sweden for years. It has been clinically tested and is manufactured in Sweden in accordance with the European Union environmental regulations; it is also registered
with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The Nosefrida comes with a filter but additional filters may be purchased in packs of 20 at Milagros.  And like everything you will find at Milagros, the Nosefrida is BPA & Phthalate Free.

We love introducing fun, locally made items. And here are some great ones!
