UrbanMamas recently posted about health concerns with chocolate gold coins made in China.  Read the full post here.

We recently posted information about the Thomas Train Recall. More recently the NY Times published a story regarding overall concerns with the safety of toys manufactured in China.

In response to some customer inquiries, we wanted to make it clear that we do not carry any wood toy lines that are made in China (such as Melissa and Doug).

All of the wood toys we carry at Milagros are USA made:

  • D and ME Toys which are handmade in Montana
  • Vermont-made Montgomery Schoolhouse Toys
  • Wood Toy Shop products which are handmade right here in Portland!

Rest assured that all paints and finishes on these wood toys are safe, non-toxic and lead-free.

We have recently learned about a recall of Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Toys. Many of these toys have surface paints that contain lead. Complete information on the affected toys as well as pictures of the toys may be found HERE.

We have never sold these products at Milagros but we wanted to spread the word about this potential hazard.

Here is a link to information from the Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding the recall of Infantino Sling Carriers:

More Info on Recall of Infantino Slings

Please note that we do not carry Infantino Slings. None of the slings and carriers we sell at Milagros are being recalled.

This important post was on UrbanMamas:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to use certain jars of Earth’s Best Organic 2 Apple Peach Barley Wholesome Breakfast baby food because of the risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause botulism, a life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled. Details on the FDA Website here.

125-2544_img.JPGConsumer Reports has withdrawn its article on infant car seats. You can read the full story here.

However no matter what car seat you have, it is also important to make sure that you are using it properly. You can have your safety seat installation inspected at a variety of local agencies and businesses. To find the inspection station closest to you, go to seatcheck.org or check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. Also the Alliance for Community Traffic Safety maintains a calendar of car seat clinics in Oregon.

A couple of other things to keep in mind regarding safety seats:

1) you shouldn’t purchase a used seat since there is not way to determine if it has ever been in a crash; and

2) do not use a seat past its expiration date (the expiration date is usually stamped on the plastic).

Product_recallfeedFYI - We received notice from BABYBJÖRN that they are voluntarily recalling their feeding spoons. Although we never sold this product at Milagros, we wanted to spread the word about this potential hazard:

” After extended use, the soft plastic tip on the feeding spoon can loosen and break off, posing a choking hazard. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled feeding spoons and contact BabySwede LLC to receive a refund or replacement spoons.”

If you have one of these spoons, you may contact BabySwede LLC (BABYBJÖRN’s US-based distributor) toll-free at (866) 424-0200 anytime, or by email to receive a refund or replacement.
