Home Birth Article in NYT

Posted November 13th, 2008 in Milagros News | Comments Off

There was a piece about home birth in today’s New York Times.Gael and Mila were both born at home. It was a wonderful experience for us as a family, it is wild to see this option being used by more and more families in the US.Although we chose home birth, we encourage expectant parents to make their own informed decision on what may be best for them. We posted some thoughts on how to shop for a midwife a while back, here is a link to that post.

Music by Matt Clark at Milagros

Posted November 12th, 2008 in music, Products | Comments Off

clarkmatt.jpg
Local musician Matt Clark has recently released an excellent CD of music for kids called “Funny Little Fella”. These songs are quirky and fun for kids and parents.
Matt’s inspiration for the songs was the first year of his son’s life. As such, the songs focus on a baby’s first year from a baby’s point of view (without being annoying, a difficult feat that Matt pulls off). Song titles such as “Why Do I Need Teeth?” and “I Think I am Gonna Put it in My Mouth” sum up what is in store.

According to Kids’ Music that Rocks: “Funny Little Fella, is a cross between Mr. David and They Might Be Giants, a musically and lyrically adventurous collection of tender, brief, but sometimes hilarious tunes.”

The Wonderful Place

cover.jpgWe love Chrissy Butler’s illustrations and her delightful story-telling. Which is why we are proud to be the first retail store in the USA who is presenting this Australian author’s work. We previously wrote about her book My Brother Jimi Jazz, a lovely book about home birth that was a favorite of Mila’s when we were preparing for Gael’s arrival, now we also have her new book The Wonderful Place.
The Wonderful Place is a delight filled look at the joys of full term breastfeeding. Featuring luscious images of breastfeeding moments and the musings of a toddler, this book sends a positive message to families about breastfeeding. It is alsoprinted onto 100% post consumer re-cycled paper is reinforcing the message of sustainability not only of breastfeeding but printing as well.
Chrissy is excited to share another book which advocates peaceful parenting: “My hope is that this book will help spread a joyous message about full term breastfeeding.” And we are excited to help!
