3D for the Family
On a suggestion from Shawn Bowman of Indie Kid Films, we made a recent trip to the 3D Center of Art and Photography. The 3D Center is a non-profit museum that showcases 3D imagery. We were lucky enough to get there on the last day of their exhibit that focused on the mighty View Master Viewer!
Did you know that View Master was founded in Portland and the reels and viewers were made in Portland when GAF was still in business (Fisher-Price now owns and manufactures View Masters)? Well, I didn t!
The 3D Center s gallery is pretty small but it features vintage 3D cameras, projectors and viewing devices as well as the most up to date 3D cameras on the market today. And you can learn about the history of 3D photography from its early use to chronicle the American Civil War to its current use in the Space Program. The small gallery is completed by a theater that features a fun 3D slideshow. Exhibits rotate on a monthly basis.
The 3D Center for Art and Photography is open Thursday Sunday and is located at 1928 NW Lovejoy Street in Portland, Oregon. Admission is $4 for anyone over 12 but you can get a family admission for only $7 and on first Thursdays the center is FREE!
