Sometimes I forget…
…that I live in the Pacific Northwest.
We took Mila to see the greatest pediatric dentist in the world today, Dr. Pike. Because he is located just off the 26 in the in Sylvan area we always follow an appointment with a trip to the Zoo.
Well, it was cloudy this morning but I was convinced that “it will burn-off.” Due to the weather recently, I have been lulled into believing that we have sunny days all the time here in Portland. SO, only Mila was prescient enough to bring a proper coat. It began raining shortly after the appointment ended. When we arrived at the zoo, it was pouring. Still, we weren’t ready to head to an inside adventure.
Traditionally, there is an umbrella or two rolling around on the floorboards of our car along with crushed goldfish, stickers, crayons, polly pocket shoes and the like. BUT we had recently “cleaned-out” the car in an attempt to seem more organized than we actually are to visiting relations. So, no luck in the “let’s see what’s in the car” category.
I ducked into the zoo to see if they rent umbrellas or if there were any options in the gift shop. Struck out on rentals and gearing up in the gift shop would be more than it was worth (especially with plenty of gear sitting at home). Strike two.
Go home and come back? Seemed like such a waste. Head to another nearby museum – the children’s museum or the forestry center? We had spent Sunday indoors and REALLY wanted to be outside. Then Jen suggested heading down the hill to the nearby Goodwill on Burnside! Brilliant!
We drove out of Washington Park and into the Goodwill parking lot and picked up two super compact umbrellas for a total of $6.98. So we enjoyed a day at the zoo afterall! Yay!
…and since the umbrellas fit in the glove box, they won’t be lost to any future cleaning attempts.
